Queen’s University Joins Ontario Mobility Ecosystem

Queen’s University Joins Ontario Mobility Ecosystem, a Strategic Partnership Formed with EnerTech Capital, Alectra, Linamar, and Western University to Help Build an Ecosystem for Mobility Technologies in Ontario

October 26, 2022, Toronto, ON and Philadelphia, PA – EnerTech is excited to announce that Queen’s University, one of the top universities in Canada with a strong focus on research around issues of environmental protection, health care, and the development of advanced technologies, has joined the Ontario Mobility Ecosystem, a strategic group of companies, universities, and investors that have come together to help innovate, support, and advance new mobility technologies in Ontario.

The partnership, formed by key mobility technology partners EnerTech, Alectra, Linamar, and Western University focuses on creating an enhanced collaborative environment that will promote research and development and commercialization of advanced mobility innovations in the Ontario region. The mobility sector is currently the fastest and most dynamically changing sector due to the energy transition and therefore advancements in the autonomous vehicles, electrification, fleet management, connectivity, and transportation logistics industries are imperative to achieving our future emission goals. Some of the technologies we’re aiming to accelerate include the development of enhanced batteries, autonomy, hydrogen as a fuel source, smart city technologies, and renewable energy.

As a leading firm in the mobility space, EnerTech has assumed a key role in building broad innovation partnerships, specifically working to create improved business engagement between industry leaders and early-stage innovation companies. Along with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), EnerTech co-architected the California Mobility Center (CMC), a nonprofit, public-private entity that focuses on accelerating the pace of commercialization for mobility startups. The CMC has also partnered with two notable academic institutions – University of California-Davis, and Sacramento State University.

”We are excited to have Queen’s University join the mobility ecosystem we are building in Ontario. We believe Queen’s involvement and core research focus areas in mobility will provide valuable insight and partnership opportunities within the Ontario ecosystem and developing emerging mobility companies in the province,” said Wally Hunter, Managing Director, EnerTech Capital.

“Queen’s University is pleased to join the Ontario Mobility Ecosystem and looks forward to advancing mobility technologies in collaboration with EnerTech and founding partners,” said Jim Banting, Assistant Vice-Principal, Partnerships and Innovation at Queen’s. “Many faculty members and graduate students at Queen’s are conducting leading edge research related to advanced mobility. Joining this Ecosystem will further enable the university to promote research capabilities, mobilize knowledge, and, ideally, attract investment to commercialize mobility inventions.”
