EnerTech Invests in Swift Navigation, a Precise Positioning Solution for Autonomous Vehicles

Led by Crosslink Capital, the round saw strong participation from existing investors NEA, Eclipse Ventures, EPIQ Capital Group, First Round Capital, TELUS Global Ventures, and Potentum Partners alongside new investors Niterra Ventures, AlTi Tiedemann Global, GRIDS Capital, Essentia Ventures, and Shea Ventures. As demand for high-accuracy positioning continues to grow, Swift’s technology presents a compelling market opportunity, playing a crucial role in the mobility industry.

Swift Navigation was founded in 2012, with an initial goal of developing GPS in airborne wind turbines. The company has since evolved from creating the industry’s first low-cost, high-accuracy, real-time kinematic (RTK) GPS receiver to delivering an ecosystem of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) precise positioning solutions for a variety of autonomous applications.

Swift's technology enhances GNSS signal accuracy by employing advanced atmospheric modeling to correct errors caused by atmospheric disturbances, ensuring precise positioning. They can adjust for these factors through cellular infrastructure deployed by their telecommunications network and component ecosystem partners to track the vehicle within 4-5 seconds. The Skylark precise positioning service connects via cellular antenna to the vehicle, and the Starling positioning engine pulls data from the wheel odometry, inertial sensors, and GNSS receiver hardware to calculate the absolute position. Swift’s offering can be applied to several areas of mobility including automated HD map, lane level traffic, parking space finder, final inch delivery, turn by turn navigation, and robotic path finding.
