  • Wally Hunter, Managing Director

    Wally has been investing in Energy Technology for over 15 years. He runs EnerTech's Canadian operations from Toronto. His specific areas of focus include opportunities in Energy Management and Building Automation & Control, Oil & Gas Technologies (including Digital Oil Fields), Power electronics, Advanced materials, Water treatment Technologies in Energy, Software & Internet of things (IoT).

    Prior to EnerTech, Wally was a Managing Director with RBC Capital Partners where he was responsible for the bank's Venture Capital fund (Energy Technology and Advanced Technology Fund) which was part of RBC's Investment Banking Division (RBC Capital Markets). He has an extensive background in the Venture Capital business which includes a series of successful IPO’s, M&A and turnaround transactions throughout his 20 year career in the finance business.

    In addition to Wally’s extensive finance background, he previously produced and hosted the weekly financial television show "Money Week" which featured over 200 guest interviews from Canadian and U.S. money managers over a 14 year period.  He was also involved in politics and sat as a local Councillor in the Town of Milton (three terms) and on the Board of the Ontario College of Pharmacists (Chair of finance).

    Wally was past Chairman of the Banff Venture Forum Cleantech Stream and Chairman of the 2014 Canadian Venture Capital Association conference in Ottawa in May of 2014. He sits on the board of the Canadian Venture Capital Association (CVCA), Venture Capital Association of Alberta (VCAA), Sustainable Development Technology Canada Governing Board (SDTC) as well as EnerTech portfolio companies FilterBoxx, N-Dimension Solutions, HPC Energy Services and Western Oilfield Equipment Ltd. Wally was previously an observer on the Board of Distech Controls prior to the sale of the company to Acuity Brands for $318 Million CDN.

    Wally received a BA from the University of Western Ontario and has completed a number of securities-related courses and programs including the Canadian Securities Institute (CSC program) and Canadian Investment Finance (CIF I, II &III).


  • Scott Ungerer, Founder & Managing Director

    Scott has been a visionary and recognized leader in venture capital investing for the traditional and advanced energy sectors since 1994. He is also one of the few with an extensive and proven investment and management operations history. Currently, Scott specifically looks for opportunities that reduce the cost and/or improve the customer experience related to all aspects of energy supply, delivery and usage.  His specific areas of experience, interest and expertise include companies that sell into the following industry sectors:  central and distributed power generation; electric transmission; electric, natural gas and water distribution; energy management for the C&I customer premise; all aspects distributed energy resources; and transportation.

    Scott has worked with more than 20 early-to-mid stage private companies providing both strategic and operational guidance and advice as a board member and investor. He currently sits on the boards of GeoDigital Inc. (Chairman), The NanoSteel Company, Tangent Energy Solutions (Chairman), Enbala Power Networks, N-Dimension Solutions Inc., Ushr (Chairman) and Power Survey. Scott managed investments in and formerly sat on the boards of Clean Air Power (L: CAP)- sold; CURRENT Group - sold; Catalytic Solutions (L: CTSU)- sold; Enerwise – purchased by Comverge; Intellon (NASDAQ: ITLN) - purchased by Atheros/Qualcom, Comverge (NASDAQ: COMV) - purchased by private equity investor, and CoaLogix (NASDAQ: ACORN) – purchased by private equity investor.

    Scott shares his expertise and viewpoints with the core energy/power industry through participation in a select few organizations: currently the E-Source Executive Advisory Board; and formerly as: Industrial Internet Consortium (Chairman of the SmartGrid TestBed Program’s Advisory Group); a board member of the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP); Chairman of the VC Advisory Board for the National Renewable Energy Lab; member of the Battelle Energy Advisory Council; and member of the Cleantech Venture Network Advisory Board.

    Prior to EnerTech, Scott spent 16 years in the power industry as an operating executive with Atlantic Energy culminating in his role as one of five senior officers, and as President & COO of the entire set of the company's non-regulated enterprises.

    Scott received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Princeton University; he has also attended several graduate level Business, Strategy and Management courses at Wharton.

  • Jarett Carson, Managing Director

    Jarett Carson has been investing and advising on investments in energy and energy technology, companies and projects for 18 years and including his previous engineering roles has over 24 years of combined experience in the energy and process industries.

    Prior to joining EnerTech, Jarett was a Partner at Sound Energy Partners, an energy focused hedge fund group where they launched one of the first energy technology hedge fund products. The Sound Energy Alternatives Fund invested globally, in public and private companies in the energy technology sector. Previously, he was Director, Energy Technology Research, at RBC Capital Markets, which he joined in 2000 to cover the oil and gas industry. In 2001 he launched RBC's efforts in energy technology research and was responsible for advising public and private market investment managers and companies on a global basis.   Prior to joining RBC, Jarett worked six years in various engineering and project management positions in upstream oil and gas (with Mobil Oil, now ExxonMobil), refining, and chemicals – the final four with Chevron.

    Jarett has made appearances on CNBC and has been featured in articles in Bloomberg, Barron’s, Dow Jones, and The Globe and Mail, among print publications, as an expert on energy technology investments. He received his BSc in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University and his MBA from the A.B. Freeman School of Tulane University.

  • Dean Sciorillo, Managing Director

    Dean has been investing in energy and clean energy companies and projects for 12 years. Dean joined EnerTech in 2004 and is responsible for sourcing, diligencing and working with EnerTech portfolio companies. Prior to joining EnerTech, Dean spent 15 years with Exelon Corporation most recently in the corporate venture capital group. Prior to that, he was a Business Planning Manager focusing on the long term strategic and financial planning of the Enterprises Business Unit and worked closely with the retail energy, telecommunication and utility infrastructure businesses. Earlier in his career, he held financial positions with several start-up businesses of Exelon including the company's energy management and consulting practice and onsite energy services business.

    Dean received a BS in Finance from LaSalle University and an MBA from the Fox School of Temple University.

  • Anne-Marie Bourgeois, Vice President

    Anne-Marie has 10 years of operational and business development background, and 10 years of investment experience. Her specific areas of interest include technologies leading to more efficient energy use including IIoT, software, analytics, AI, cleantech, and blockchain.

    Anne-Marie is recognized for her proactive involvement with companies and large corporations.  She spent the first years of her career in sales and operations and worked with dozens of early-to-mid stage companies commercializing technologies and providing strategic advice. She is widely known for her prodigious worldwide Rolodex, from entrepreneurs to venture capitalists, corporate execs / potential acquirers. She has strong oral and written communications skills (French, English, Spanish, Germany, and Portuguese).

    As Vice President, Investments with EnerTech Capital, Anne-Marie serves as a member of the venture deal team. She is responsible for sourcing proprietary deal flow, vetting deals and managing investments, including Distech Controls (exited), Power Survey International (board observer), and Sofdesk Inc. (board observer). She also contributes to building relationships with prospective LP investors locally and on a global basis.

    Anne-Marie is high energy and passionate about investing and entrepreneurship. She is results-driven, solutions-oriented, and always goes the extra-mile. Her skillset includes strong interpersonal skills and leadership, capable of influencing and selling an idea, listening and quickly understanding negotiation positions. She believes strong work ethics, perseverance, grit and discipline are key to success.

    Prior to EnerTech, Anne-Marie worked as a Regional Director for SDTC (Cleantech fund), and as an Executive in Residence specialized in sales and business development with SIDD. She also gained due diligence experience while working with FondAction’s satellite organization. She received a Master’s degree in Public Administration and International Management from Université du Québec Enap, a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Geology, and a Bachelor of Social Science with joint Honors in Political Science and Public Administration from University of Ottawa.

  • Chris Buckman, Vice President

    Chris joined EnerTech Capital in 2016.  Prior to his position with EnerTech, Chris held senior management roles as President and Executive VP Business Development of Ignite Energy Service, a Venture Capital backed private company. He brings significant domain knowledge and operating experience in the Energy Technology sector and helps support a strong focus in Canada. Chris will continue to help EnerTech develop significant linkages with the many emerging Energy Technology companies along with Strategic Partners and Co-Investors.

    Chris is a graduate of the University of Lethbridge with a B.A. in Kinesiology and Marketing.

  • Dr. Dominic Geraghty, Sector Expert

    Dr. Geraghty is Executive Chairman of Smart Energy Instruments, Chairman of N-Dimension Technologies, Managing Director of, and Team Lead of the Smart Grid Testbed Program at the Industrial Internet Consortium. He has more than 25 years of experience in the power industry and has had an extensive career in the power and smart grid sector including serving as the CEO and President of Tantalus Systems Corporation, and as Senior Vice-President of Corporate Development of Catalytica Energy Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CESI), heading up M&A activities. He was senior private equity energy investment consultant at GFI Energy Group, Oaktree Capital. Dom co-founded Enerwise Global Technologies, an enterprise energy management solutions provider, where he served as co-CEO and Senior Vice President of Corporate Development. He also founded, an e-commerce company focused on developing premium power solutions for the power generation industry.

    Dr. Geraghty has provided consulting services to utilities, energy service providers, early-stage companies and venture capital funds in the energy sector. Earlier, he served in senior management positions with various other companies in the energy industry, including as President of Genesis Services Division at Itron (NASDAQ: ITRI), as General Partner of UTech, a venture capital fund focused on energy-related transactions, and at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), where he was responsible for corporate and R&D strategy and research and development program management. Dom served on the Boards of Tantalus, The NanoSteel Company, and SCR-Tech (CoaLogix).

    He holds a BE and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from University College in Dublin, Ireland, and an MBA from the University of Santa Clara, CA.

  • Colleen Pale, Director of Finance and Administration

    Joined EnerTech in 2008 and is responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of the Funds and the Firm. Colleen has worked in accounting and IT-related positions in the banking, credit card and non-profit sectors for the past 15 years.  She earned her B.S. degree in Accountancy from Villanova School of Business, Villanova University.

  • Gian Vergnetti, Principal

    Gian joined EnerTech in 2013 and is responsible for sourcing, diligencing and working with EnerTech portfolio companies. Prior to joining EnerTech, Gian conducted research as a Fulbright Scholar at Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where his work focused on investments in the energy and natural resources space. Prior to that, he was a Specialist in the Alternative Investments Group at Merrill Lynch & Co.

    Gian received a BS in International Business from The University of Scranton.

  • Lyndsy MacArthur, Investor Relations & Marketing Specialist

    Lyndsy joined EnerTech Capital in May of 2012 working in the firm's Toronto office. Lyndsy worked directly with Managing Director Wally Hunter planning company events and managing the Canadian offices. In 2018, she accepted a new position as Investor Relations & Marketing Specialist. Lyndsy works closely with EnerTech's Limited and Strategic Partners and handles the firm's marketing needs.

    Lyndsy spent two years in Early Childhood Education at Ryerson University before graduating with an honors BA from York University.

  • Montana Miles, Executive Assistant

    Montana joined EnerTech Capital in September of 2016 as an Executive Assistant at the firms Toronto office; working directly with Wally Hunter. In addition to supporting Wally, she also maintains the general office needs and is responsible for helping to plan company events.

    Montana came to EnerTech after completing four years at Western University with a Major in Sociology.

  • Jessica Ungerer, Finance and Digital Media Specialist

    Jessica completed two years at Florida Atlantic University’s Honors College before transferring to FAU’s College of Business to double major in Marketing and Management. Prior to joining EnerTech, she was a successful equestrian for twelve years competing year round from Vermont to Florida. Jessica began interning with EnerTech in 2015 and in December of 2017 accepted the position of Finance and Digital Media Specialist.

    Jessica has also played a key role in supporting the launch of EnerTech PACE, and will continue on in a business development and administrative capacity.

  • Jiajia Zhou, Analyst

    Jiajia joined EnerTech in April of 2018 based in the Toronto office.  Jiajia is responsible for conducting research and preparing reports on companies and subjects of interest to support strategy and decision making. She is also a Sessional Instructional Assistant for advanced finance courses at the University of Toronto (UofT). Prior to joining EnerTech, Jiajia has been a teaching assistant for various finance and economics courses for 3 years and a research assistant in the department of economics.

    Jiajia earned a B.Comm degree in 2017 with a specialist in Finance, and received an M.A. in Economics in 2018 from the UofT. She is a CFA Level II candidate and speaks Mandarin and Cantonese. While pursuing her passion in business, Jiajia is actively involved in the community as a member in Mississauga Chorus Society where she was part of celebrating Canada’s 150 at the city of Mississauga and Toronto.

  • David Martin, Sector Expert

    David has over 27 years of innovation across the globe building better products and services. He has worked across many sectors from automotive to consumer products, utility to multinational beverage sectors solving some of the toughest social and commercialization challenges to make companies better.

    Recently appointed to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Green Municipal Fund Council, David becomes one of the 15 members recognized as leaders in the federal, municipal and environmental sectors and as innovators and champions of environmental sustainability.

    His specialties include deep technical knowledge and abilities paired with professional sales skills for all kinds of technologies and products. He is an excellent presenter of complex and novel ideas to broad audiences - making connections that make sense and inspiring motivation through enthusiasm and diligence. 

  • Darrell Massie, Sector Expert

    Darrell Massie is the founder and Chief Technology Officer of Intelligent Power & Energy Research Corporation (IPERC), a producer of intelligent controls for electrical grids. He led the development and patenting of several innovative energy systems control technologies, including the only military-certified cybersecure microgrid control system.

    As Chief Executive Officer of IPERC from 2004 to 2016, he anticipated the emergence of energy microgrids and steered the development of an R&D concept into an attractive commercial controls product for that growing market. Dr. Massie continues to lead strategic technology development for the company.

    Prior to founding IPERC, Dr. Massie served for over 20 years as a commissioned officer in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He taught for 15 years as an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
